Latest painting. Please like it. PLEASE.

Latest painting work in progress. Little Red Riding Hood’s hood still faintly visible through the hair.

The probable reason for the painting hiatus was the fact that I started hating the painting. Apart from the wolf. The wolf’s all right. In a more well-appointed setting he could stay; unfortunately, it wasn’t to be. He has now vanished under a layer of black acrylic.

I decided I wanted to do something else with the canvas, and that something else will be this:

It’s a very rough sketch that I did at work the other day (standard “during my dinner break” disclaimer applies). The end result will be moody and glamorous with a hint of melancholy. Or a huge bag of shit that I will end up painting over again.

Since I’m trying to pull this blog out of the doldrums, I’ll try and post regular WIP updates. Do pop back when you’ve a mo.

It’s not really. I have, however, done a few things recently in order to try and shift things towards a slightly more commercial bent. By which I mean, I’d like to sell a few pics. This may be a shrewd, considered course of action I’ve embarked upon in order to capitalise on whatever skill I possess; or it may be a half-arsed, doomed-to-failure attempt at donning a metaphorical gum shield and shin pads ready for the royal mugging of Christmas. YOU decide.

Anyway, I’ve created an Etsy, here.

It’s possibly the least-viewed Etsy in all creation. I think it’s because it isn’t all autumnal colouring and pics of impossibly pretty young things modelling antique feather boas. Or because I’m shit at promoting myself (ref. THIS POST). And the prices, in US dollars, look really high. Why they can’t do a pounds, shilling and pence site like everyone else is anybody’s guess. I suspect they’re lazy. Too busy having it off with impossibly pretty young things in antique feather boas.

Rather brilliantly, they’re not displaying the pictures I’ve uploaded. Though I should maybe make more of an effort and upload a profile pic and stuff.

Two people like it already! One of them is me, but I’m technically a person so there. There may be some Facebook ‘Like’ buttons and suchlike popping up in the future (a rather nebulous place that begins immediately after I’ve learned how to insert Facebook ‘Like’ buttons).

You may also notice a few changes round here. I’ve had a bit of a prune, mainly deleting anything that could possibly fall under the category of “Nazi porn”. I’m all about the responsibility these days. Not about the money.

I did this earlier. It’s inspired by this guy. Karl sent me the same link yesterday.

Do you ever get the feeling, upon seeing something for the first time, that it’s the thing you should have been doing with your life? You feel almost paralysed with envy. And no small amount of grief. That’s what I felt when I looked at those drawings. Drawn on Post-It notes, apparently. I think they’d have to be the big Post-It notes, rather than the tiny ones. Unless the artist has electron microscopes for eyes.

In mitigation, it’s a shit photo. The original is a lot brighter and the yellow ochre bits don’t jump out at you like animated jaundice. Crikey. My camera hates yellow ochre. I’m quite pleased with the end result.

I feel I should paint a large nude next.

I’ve truck-loads to blog about, I really have. I’ll get round to it.

It looks a little better in the flesh. It’s quite a high-res photo, so clicking on it should bring the ineptitude of my brush strokes into sharper focus.
